I didn't say he was a bad drummer... however if he is spouting off a 'holier than thou' attitude, well, sorry Neil, i don't care how 'influential' you are... he don't mean nothing to me so i don't mind calling out his sh*t... not that Neil or anyone else cares what i have to say, but still, i enjoy saying it regardless [img]tongue.gif[/img]

I was just pumped cause i thought i was about to make a good point then i thought you pulled out both barrels on me and slapped me with a 'Neil basher' title (not to be confused with the Weckl basher which is twice as powerful and diffuses all Weckl-bombs within a 50-day radius [img]rolleyes.gif[/img] ).
Once i get slapped with a 'Neil basher' title, all my posts for the topic become moot because that smackdown (the one i thought i got from you) trumps all arguements [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Funny stuff Matricks yeah that Weckl basher is pretty bad stuff [img]tongue.gif[/img] I do not like to give a smackdown but man when someone just trashes another drummer COMPLETELY(like paraflam did) without any perspective I do get a little sensitive also. I sure am not the biggest Neil fan but I have no problem giving someone props for what they have contributed to drumming.

They have carved their niche in the 'progressive-rock' world and will do anything they can to make a buck - and I bet that means releasing records without obtaining the proper mechanical licenses. I played on a 'tribute' record for Magna Carta MANY years ago, and I know from experience that their motives can be dubious.Quote:

I have nothing but admiration for Peart and his accomplishments: respected rich influential rich hip drummer (when he was younger) in a great vocal rock band. Did I mention $$$$$? He took the cerebral double bass / excessive tom stylings of Carl Palmer and Billy Cobham and advanced them into the mainstream. We HODites often languish in our shadow-sub-culture fusion niche(s) but if I could have had half the career ink respect that Neil has had I could die happy tonight. Very happy! Talk about achieving some goals and getting slammed on the way to the top.

The way it works is, there is a set amount of money per song per CD sold that Rush's publishing company will receive once the mechanical licenses are obtained (around 10 or 20 cents), but even then, you're at the mercy of the label's accounting unless you decide to audit them, which is costly.Quote:

Most musicians probably don't concern themselves with these details - but you can bet your ass that the label knows ALL ABOUT IT.
Ok, well then Neil should have beef with the label, not cut down the musicians who (i think) were not doing it to make money off of Rush, they were doing it cause they liked the music. I don't think Mike wanted to make a buck in exchange for the respect of his idol... i think he honestly did it because he wanted to from a musical-appreciative standpoint.
How many times do the musicians for a tribute project, or a project where songs are covered, actually get in touch with the actual band themself/label? They have go-betweens for that. If Magna Carta slipped up, then have beef with them, let the musicians know that you didn't appreciate that they didn't go through proper channels; don't go and undercut people in print like that.
The way to deal with an issue like that is called lawers, it is not by calling names and defaming people. If there was something fishy there then i am sure that it would trickle down to the actual players involved if one was to get legal about it.
That label is a prog-wank label whose whole catalog probably sells less yearly than one Usher single sells in a couple days. When i see someone putting out a project for them, i don't see $$ in the eyes of the musicians. I am sure Bozzio made a killing off of his Black Light Syndrome... yeah, not really. They do it cause the label will spring for it and they can distribute music to people who actually will take the time to look for it... i mean, who actually bought that tribute CD anyways?
Sure Neil could and should be pissed if they were ripping him off, but i don't think Steve Morse and Billy Sheehan, Mike Portnoy, all those guys, got together and conspired to release an un-offical collection of Rush tunes so they could make a quick buck... i mean, does anyone really think that? If they are in this biz for the money, well, playing prog-rock maybe isn't the best choice of genres, wouldn't you say so? Calling someone a 'bar musician' and saying they aren't any good cause you are pissed off, and doing it during an interview... i dunno, sounds kinda high schoolish to me.
